Dusit Thani Himalayan Resort, Dhulikhel

Dusit Thani Himalayan Resort opened above Dhulikhel in July 2023, the first internationally branded luxury resort in the area. It sits about an hour from Tribhuvan International Airport and roughly ten minutes from Namo Buddha, one of the most significant Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Nepal.

Worth knowing before you choose it

This is not a Kathmandu city hotel. Dhulikhel is on the eastern rim of the valley, and getting into the old city means an hour each way. Guests who pick it are usually choosing the view and the quiet over proximity to the temples.

What you get in exchange is the Himalayan skyline from the terrace on a clear morning, and a genuinely peaceful base a long way from traffic.

The property

It opened with 28 rooms including four junior suites, alongside eighteen residences. The service style is Dusit’s Thai hospitality adapted to Nepal, which in practice means a lot of attention without much fuss.

Who tends to choose it

Guests adding days either side of a trek, anyone travelling for the wellness programme rather than the sightseeing, and repeat visitors who have already seen the valley’s monuments.
