Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge
Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge stands on a ridge about a thousand feet above the Pokhara valley floor, far enough out that the town is a distant grid of lights rather than a neighbour. Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Manaslu are all visible from it, which is three of the fourteen eight thousand metre peaks from one veranda.
Worth knowing before you choose it
It is deliberately away from the lake. Anyone who wants to walk out to a lakeside restaurant in the evening will find this the wrong choice, because the lodge is a drive from Phewa and the point of it is the separation.
The buildings are stone cottages, not hotel rooms. There is no lift, the paths between them are garden paths, and the whole property is walked rather than corridored.
The mountains are weather dependent, as everywhere in Nepal. October to November and March to May give the clearest mornings.
The property
Eighteen rooms across stone cottages laid out like a Nepali village, each with a private veranda facing either the valley or the Annapurnas, hand-knotted wool carpets and locally made furniture. The main lodge is built around a courtyard with a fireplace, a library and a bar.
There is a swimming pool set apart from the buildings, and the lodge runs massage, yoga and guided meditation alongside walking and cultural excursions into the surrounding villages.
Who tends to choose it
Guests who want the Annapurnas from their room without trekking, travellers using Pokhara as a pause between the valley and the mountains, and anyone who would rather be on a quiet ridge than in a resort strip.
It pairs naturally with a foothills section, since the walking out of the lodge runs straight into the same terraced country.
