Aloft by Marriott Kathmandu Thamel

Aloft Kathmandu Thamel

Aloft Kathmandu Thamel is a 167 room Marriott property with loft style rooms, set in Thamel and within walking distance of the old city.

What it is good for

Location, mostly. You can step out of the door and be among the bookshops, gear shops and courtyards of Thamel in two minutes, which suits guests who want to wander rather than be driven everywhere.

The rooms are high ceilinged and open plan, closer to a city apartment than a traditional hotel room. Younger guests and repeat visitors to Kathmandu tend to prefer it.

Worth knowing

Aloft is Marriott’s design led brand rather than its full service one. Expect smart, modern and well run rather than opulent. If you want the heritage of a Newari courtyard or the space of a full five star, the other Kathmandu options serve better, and we will say so when you ask.

Where it sits

Thamel puts you at the centre of things. It is lively, which is the point, and it is louder than Naxal or Battisputali, which is the trade off.
